About OneRealMom

Being a mother – and a stay at home one, at that – is said to be the toughest job you’ll ever love. It’s true! Motherhood is challenging – at all stages!

When I was preparing to become a mother, people told me, “Oh, you’ll never be prepared.” Sure, I read “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” (who didn’t?) and even “The Expectant Father” to get a different perspective, but nothing prepared me for the shocking truths I experienced with the birth of my son March 2012 - hormones, emotions, sleep deprivation, trouble nursing, anxiety, depression and, finally, recovery. In fact, given all I experienced with the first one, I knowingly entered into round two, and we welcomed our beautiful baby girl in June 2014.

While every woman has a different experience when they become a mother, many of the things we feel are very much the same. The problem is, as women, we like to put up a façade so everyone assumes we’re rocking this new title and job description. The reality is, we’re feeling inadequate and alone in our struggles. We’re afraid to reach out to other women to talk about our feelings lest they see us a failures. We’re afraid to talk to our spouses and admit that, indeed, we just don’t think we’re cut out for this whole mom gig. And, when we get up the nerve to talk to our doctor about the possibility of prescription drugs, we hang our head in shame because we think it means we’ve admitted we just aren’t strong enough.

Well, I’m here to tell you that YOU ARE NOT ALONE! When I first thought about this blog idea, I was struggling emotionally with the birth of my son. Since the birth of my daughter, I’m ready to open up and share with other moms the reality of my struggles and triumphs, and how I am embracing this important, once in a lifetime, role.
